The MIAM is the first meeting in the mediation process which lasts for approx 1 hour.
The MIAM is a confidential meeting between you and the mediator.
This meeting is the opportunity for you to tell the mediator more about the issues you are experiencing.
The mediator will explain the mediation process and how this may help you. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have, especially if you have concerns about the process. The mediator will also be able to provide you with information on other forms of dispute resolution. The mediator will also discuss the costs for mediation going forward.
If there are children over the age of 10, the mediator will provide you with information on Child Inclusive Mediation. This is a process where a child can meet with a trained child inclusive mediator, the aim is to allow for the Childs "voice" when they are being discussed by the parents.
At the end of the meeting the mediator will discuss how and if you wish to proceed further with mediation and if mediation is the correct approach for your situation.
